The quick check I made for a defination of g-value indicates that it is
essentially the same as SHGC.  Differences between the numbers are
likely due to different standard interior and exterior conditions (these
will change the disipation of heat from the warm glass) as well as
possible dfferences in wave lengths used for the measurements of
transmission.  I think you will have to look at base standards to find
the differences, which may not be linear....

Perhaps you need to look at OPTICS from LBNL as this is base data on
glass that is used by WINDOW to calculate SHGC.  Similar programs for
g-value may use this common glass data as well.

hello brent,

if I comunicate for example with an architect in Germany about the
glazing, he would say something like "g-value 0.45-0.39 is Ok for
me", so I have to input a glazing material from which I know that it
will fullfill the requirements. Therefore WINDOW5 just outputs the
SHGC, I want to be sure that the glazing I input has the g-value
which is required.
I compared the values of the SHGC and the g-value of standard glazing
from a TRNSYS library, but there was no real factor (for manfacturer
data I got g=(1,10 to 1,17)* SHGC) to convert from one to the other.
This would have been the most easiest way :-)

You have to specify the individual layers of glazing material and
gases and EnergyPlus calculates and reports SHGC as an output (in
