[EnergyPlus_Support] E+ vs. DesignBuilder

Greetings E+ Group,

I am looking to simulate different types of buildings primarily 
to 'measure' energy use of the bldg. with, and then without, trees -
looking at how the trees directly affect consumption.  How does 
EnergyPlus improve upon DesignBuilder in this regard (if at all)?  Are 
they both equally competent for my purpose or do they differ in some 
way?

What is the best way to utilize DesignBuilder and EnergyPlus?  Is 
DesignBuilder simply a 'face' for EnergyPlus calculations or does 
EnergyPlus do more?
