It is quite likely the result of compiler differences.  On Windows, I 
am currently using the Intel compiler (version 10).  On Linux, I am 
using a Lahey compiler.  The speed differences used to be comparable, 
but apparently not anymore.

I try to use equivalent compiler options on whatever platform or 
compiler I am using to build the executable.

As a collaborative developer, you can always compile the source to 
your own specifications -- this might be an option for you.
