RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Tr : Difficulties about exercise 1.B in getting started

I have added my comments below in red.

With EPlaunch you can edit the file in two modes.
a) a text editor and
b) the IDFeditor.

When you select one of these two buttons, the EPlaunch opens the application for you.  When you save and return, you can continue doing the simulation using the saved file having the same name, with the new objects which you have modified.

You can save with a different name, so the original file is not changed.

The following two paragraph provide similar informaton to what I have added above.

This is the same as the 2) and 3).

The IDFeditor can sort the input file that you are using into a standard order, or add your new lines at the top or bottom of the file, so that they will be easier for you to find, in Exercise 1B.IDF.

When you doing the save as, the Windows usually show you a directory tree and ask you to enter a name.  Remember the name of this directory or you can change it to be save in another directory, which I usually refer it as the 'User' directory.

If you have not copied the exercise 1A.idf to another directory before opening the EP launch, the working directory would be the BasicFiles directory.

When you save, the Exercise1B.idf is probably in the same directory. or in your user 'document' directory, which is the default for VISTA.

If it is in the user 'dcument' directory, you need to copy or move it into the BasicFiles or your sorking directory.

The solution of the exercise is in the Exercise1B-Solution.idf.

If you used save, instead of save as with a different name, your added solution would be in the modified exercise1A.IDF.  You original exercise1A.idf has been modified.

The idea is for you to start with Exercise1A.idf and then move on to 1B, 1C,1D.  You can open the solution files and look at them without going through the EPlaunch, using a text editor such as NotePad.  If you use the WordPad, make sure that the file is saved in text mode, with the extension .IDF.  If the Windows make it Exercise1B.IDF.txt, accept it and then delete the .txt in the Explore window by renaming it without  .txt.

You can have Exercise1B1.idf,  etc. for your different attemptents.

You can simulate any of the .idf files in the BasidFiles directory, and see the simulated results.

Hope this will help.

The directions say:

Exercise 1B. Add Windows
Objective: Learn how to add materials, constructions, and a surface using 3-D coordinates.

1) In EP-Launch, with input file Exercise1A.idf still selected, press ?Edit ? IDF Editor?. This will open Exercise1A.idf in the IDF Editor, a tool that assists in editing EnergyPlus input files (idf).

2) In IDF Editor, select File . Save Options . . . and set ?Saved Order? to ?Original with New
at Top?, and ?Special Format for Some Objects? to ?Yes.? Check the ?Set as Default? box.

3) In IDF Editor, Select File . Save As . . . and save this file as Exercise1B.idf.

Reference step 3, you start the exercise with 1A and save it as 1B

This morning I try to do differents exercises in EnergyPlus's getting started. I don't get difficulty to do the first but concerning the second in the point 8, document says save and close the IDF file, select Exercise 1B.idf in EP-Launch, run the simulation and view outputs.
But I don't see exercise 1B in Input file
How do I do to sucess this exercise.
Best regards
