RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Modeling a part of building?

Jinhyok Heo,

In the DesignBuilder user interface to EnergyPlus there is an option you can use to control which zones are to be included in the model. Where there is an included zone adjacent to an excluded zone, the boundary in the included zone is modelled as adiabatic (the assumption being that the excluded zone is probably at the same temperature).

To do this in idf data you can change the surface definition so that the reference of the adjacent zone is the same as the current zone and set the corresponding other side surface name to be the same name as the actual surface name. Alternatively, I think that the latest versions of EnergyPlus provide a specific surface type for modelling adiabatic boundaries.

Regards,

Andy

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Modeling a part of building?

Dear all,

May I ask what are the best practices to model just a part of building?
If I am just interested in simulating some zones of a building, is there
a way not to model the whole building? I guess I need to figure out how
to assume the boundary conditions of the zones and describe them in idf.

Regards,
