RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] window shade temperature output?

I am not sure what you tried with those outputs, but I think you are mistaken.  In EnergyPlus, blinds and shades are an integral part of the detailed fenestration model.  The output variable called “Surface Inside Temperature” should be for the temperature of the last layer facing the zone regardless if its glass, shade or blind.

Jason,

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried those output objects before, but they report only to the building surfaces and fenestrations, not to the window shading devices. As for the hand calculation, its something i've thought about, but i'm not sure what to do with the temperature difference in that object you mentioned, since the absorbed heat by the shading is in the form of radiation (mostly at least, the air temperature wont be higher than the shading during the day), i would need an equivalent temperature for that dT. I was thinking about using these objects instead:

Window Convection Heat Gain from Shade to Zone [W]

Window Net Infrared Heat Gain from Shade to Zone [W]

I think it sums up the heat exchange between the zone and the shade, and from here apply the m Cp dT relation, with dT between zone air and shading. what you think?

BTW, i got a response from the authors of that paper that sparked all this: they say they obtained the temperature values of the blinds from the surface inside temperature object, using V4.0. maybe such a report was available on that version?

Pedro,

Will any of these work for what you are trying to accomplish?

Output:Variable,*,Surface Inside Temperature,hourly; !- Zone Average [C]
Output:Variable,*,Surface Outside Temperature,hourly; !- Zone Average [C]
Output:Variable,*,Surface Int Adjacent Air Temperature,hourly; !- Zone Average [C]

If not, maybe you could take the following output

Output:Variable,*,Window Solar Absorbed:Shading
