To export an EnergyPlus IDF file from DesignBuilder use the menu option: File > Export > Export EnergyPlus or DBSim > Simulation. You can then edit the IDF data in any way you choose (for example to add HVAC systems not covered by the DesignBuilder v2 interface).

 

The current beta v2.5 generates much more readable IDF data than the v2.3 release and so I'd recommend that you use that if you plan to work on IDF generated by DesignBuilder.
