You might consider modelling the hollow space as a zone. You may consider assigning a plenumn object to that cavity zone.
On a side note: Check the DesignBuilder revision history. Perhaps there is a more actual version that may suite your needs better. V8.0 has been in the Beta's for some time, and I think the latest release as well. As e+ has released 8.1, you can be sure DB will soon follow.

Dear James,I have read in the website of EnergyPlus http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/energyplus/energyplus_archives.cfm that it is possible to model hollowcore slabs since version 3 in the ZoneHVAC:VentilatedSlab:SlabGroup but I do not know exactly how to make it as a layer of a thicker slab which has a heated floor and provides no ventilation.Do you know if this is possible?Secondly, I saw that in EnergyPlus v8 is possiple to apply multiple tubing circuits in a slab. However, I use Designbuilder v3 which connects only to EnergyPlus v7.
