Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Can E+ model open loop ground heat exchanger?

There is no Eplus model of an open loop “aquifer”. You would just use a water source heat pump with a constant inlet temperature set to the open loop abstraction temperature.  (Very likely to be close to the annual average air temperature at the location that you are considering). You would use a flow rate that gives you something like a 3-5 C temperature rise/drop across the heat pump.  You would assume that the open loop scheme was sufficiently sized to deliver a constant water temperature. Completely different to a closed loop system.

….unless of course you are trying to model an actual, existing (undersized)  installation - where there has been a water temperature rise or fall. In which case you will need to develop an open loop aquifer model. Not easy !!

Hi,

I am modelling a GSHP in E+ but need to use open loop vertical ground heat exchanger (other than vertical boreholes). Could anybody advise if this is possible in E+ please?
Thanks.
