Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Real weather data for epw file (Cardiff, UK)

There's no general reference I know of about how to create files from raw data, although the process has been documented in technical reports for previous efforts in developing typical year weather files, such as the TMY2 and TMY3 weather files by NREL, and the IWEC and IWEC2 weather files by ASHRAE.  The TMY2/TMY3 documentation are available online from NREL. The IWEC and IWEC2 documentation are available from ASHRAE, but at a price.

As a briefest of summaries, there are three distinct activities: (1) cleaning up the raw data, i.e., filling in missing data and eliminating oversampled data, converting the data to local conditions (raw data in the ISD are recorded in GMT time and standard pressure, etc.,  (2) deriving data for missing climatic elements, esp. solar radiation, illuminance, etc., and (3) putting the data in the format required by the simulation program, be it *.EPW for EPlus, *TMY3.CSV for Trace, *BINM for DOE-2, etc.

It's  not rocket science, but don't expect it to be computer-automated either, especially if you're working with real raw data and not just converting between different write formats.

@Joe: Thanks for your reply. I will look into the paid options.

Just for clarification: is there any reference on creating files from raw data? I mean could you please throw some light on  "unless, you're familiar with processing raw weather data and have the right software, you should expect to spend many hours in getting up to speed."
I also want to learn how to generate epw file from actual weather data.

Thanks
