[EnergyPlus_Support] Surface:HeatTransfer location exterior, midplane, internal?

Probably a stupid question ... but asking as search didnt seem to help.

Reading the Input/Output reference, specifically looking at Figure 1
page 11, Illustration of a Building North Axis.

1. When a Surface:HeatTransfer is created and given Construction
applied  which of the following do the verticies represent;

(a) The centerline of the wall/floor/roof/etc?
(b) The outer surface of the wall/floor/roof/etc?
(c) The inner surface of the wall/floor/roof/etc?

I understand that for adjacent zones they must have the same
construction in reverse order and that E+ can auto-calculate the zone
volume.

2. How does E+ calculates the zone volume;
(a) by subtracting the thickness of the construction
(b) half the thickness of the construction
(c) something different

Reading just below Figure 18 on page 137 "...Surfaces are specified as
viewed from "outside" the surface..." would appear to imply that the
answer to 1 is (b) and 2 is (a) can anyone verify this?

How does this then work with two adjacent zones which share a common
adjoining Surface:HeatTransfer, as the Surface:HeatTransfer will only
describe the outside surface of one of the zones and be on the inside
of the other?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mark Carey
