Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Energy simulation fee

Salaam Professor Javed,

I've Energy10, eQuest, DOE2, E+ (this is the Department of Energy's newist program www.doe.gov ), Blast, Trane Trace 700, are all current programs that are very interchangable. I had a very good report compairing over 10 of these programs, I'll email this to you when I'm at work. I would download all of E+'s support data and just start going throug the material in a logical manner, this is what I have been doing. I also would love to learn about natural ventilation, if you have any resources for this please let me know. I highly reccomend becoming a  LEED accredited professional, I recently became certified under the New Construction material. Becoming a LEED AP will give you a very good understanding of the sustainable construction accross all disciplines. (The LEED accredidation systems are changing this year, if you contact me later I can get you more information on them. Feel free to call me at work 248.204.4150. )

I am a fan of E+ because it is free - and it is well supported. The comparison study I had showed E+ to be one of the best in the items that I use all the time - load analysis, energy analysis, and economic analysis. Clients in industry want to be able to see the dollars that they would be spending on one mechanical deisgn vs another. In addition I plan on starting my own company in a few years - using a free program is obviously beneficial. If your interested I'd like to talk about future opportunites to work together on projects.

Take care.
Shariq

Hi Shariq,

I am a new PhD student in Building Science at Virginia Tech. I have
just started taking a course in building simulation that, according to
the syllabus, would go over Energy10, eQuest and DOE2. I am concerned
that I may not be learning the up-to-date material in this course. I
am interested in research on 'natural ventilation' (as this is most
appropriate in the hot-humid climate context of Bangladesh where I
come from) and programs like Energy Plus and CFD packages like Fluent
may be programs I need to start learning.

As you seem to have a good background on building simulation please
advise how I should go about educating myself on this area (there are
no courses on E+ or Fluent at VT)
