My reply is in between your questions. You still have many warnings in the error file. Since it is a large building with many zones, I do not think that the HVAC system has been designed probably. Since it took more than 30 miutes to run, I have not change any settings. The data in the designDay objects are not correct. You should verify them with the .ddy file that is down loaded with the weather file. You should design the HVAC for the building first, and then use the simulation to match. Templates will not teach you how to design a HVAC system. EPlus is a research tool, which will allow you to try something new, in the building design to minimize energy usage. Hey Dr. Li,
First of all, thank you for this detailed answer, I really do appreciate this. I'm am a beginner and that is why I work with HVAC Templates only for now. However, I will check out PTAC and Unitary Templates as you suggested. Anyways, I'll try to keep my silly questions short!
1. You have confirmed to me that my Availability Schedule is correct and that my system is working on Weekdays 08-20h, but what about Summer/WinterDesignDays? Are they not included within my CompactSchedule? The system is completely turned off for other time, unless you have other schedules to keep them on. Regarding them I do not know what safety temperature guards for Summer/WinterDDays are? What do you mean by that? A building is not suppose to have temperature higher than 40°C and colder than 0°C. Therefore, your zone temperature schedule should control the temperature to within these limits with a margin of, say, 5°C. Your cooling schedule should be something like, 0:00 to 08:00, 35°C, 08:00 tp 20:00, 25°C, 20.00 to 23.59, 35°C. 2. I understand that Type 4 Thermostat is connected with DualSetpoint field, but I don't understand how and where does it comes to play if I'm using HVAC Templates only for now? If you keep the heating and cooling on all the time in the plant, the template may automatically provide the type4 thermostat control. You can try that, and verify in the expIDF. As I remember I have no Control Type Schedule input in all of HVAC Template classes. I'm obviously missing something and I'm not sure where does this all fits in. I did not find the control type schedule. The Control Type limits were there.
3. Regarding the "chase" phrase, I meant pretty much what you said. Now when I run annual weather file simulation, I will get a building energy consumption that consists of periods of time when my system was actually working. Yes.
P.S. To save us all from further confusion, I've attached complete IDF file for you to look at when you grab some free time. Thanks Bobby
