RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] RE: Wind speed and direction data?

EPW can have subhourly data but most data sets are hourly.

The *.epw file contains 8760 hourly records for an entire "typical year", each of which should have the wind speed and direction for that hour. My note about possible interpolations is just a warning that the raw data might not always be hourly, although for a major station like Vienna the raw data probably are. In any case, the data on an *.epw file are always complete.

What is it that you want to know? The average wind speed and direction by hour of day? by month? Some of that might be reported in the *.stat file, although I'm not sure. Otherwise, you would need to read the *.epw file into a spreadsheet, and then do some summing and averaging.

Dear Mr. Huang,

Thank you for the reply. I have never been working before with EnergyPlus weather files, that is why I asked that question.
I have just downloaded three weather files for Vienna (file extensions: .epw , .ddy, .stat) from EnergyPlus Weather Data page:
http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/energyplus/cfm/weather_data3.cfm/region=6_europe_wmo_region_6/country=AUT/cname=Austria

But none of those three has an annual data (for each day, or those three hours during the day you mentioned) on wind speed. It does have just one value - annual mean speed, but that's not enough.

Did I download the right files?
