If you had a return air plenum, some lighting and building load can be assigned to the plenum and reading that air RH would be shifted. The room conditions at a return node are a “well-mixed” condition for the room that is as close as
you can get to a room condition. Displacement ventilation would be a wild card as I don’t know how latent loads get introduced.

Christopher, The zone average %RH sounds like it would be pretty darn close to me. (closer by far than "not possible"). If the Baseline and Proposed models apply the same method, the comparison should be spot
on, I think. From:

christopher.r.jones@xxxxxxx [EnergyPlus_Support] <EnergyPlus_Support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Thank you Jim, Given that the return air stream may include pick-up from the lights, would not the return RH be slightly less than the average zone RH? It likely wouldn’t be significant. Christopher R Jones, P..Eng. T+ 1 416-644-0252 From:

Christopher, I'd suggest that the modeler use: - for a multiple zone system: SetpointManager:MultiZone:MinimumHumidity:Average - for a single zone system: SetpointManager:SingleZone:Humidity:Minimum "Officially", E+ is not measuring humidity at the return air node, but it's doing effectively the same thing by determining the zone return air humidity. christopher.r.jones@xxxxxxx [EnergyPlus_Support] <EnergyPlus_Support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> I am reviewing a LEED 2009 submission. The design sequence of operations calls for humidification to be controlled by measuring the return air stream RH. The modeler states that it is not possible for EnergyPlus
v9.0 to model this control strategy. Is this the case? I am used to IES where it is possible with a few clicks.
